Tonight was the opening show of Dreamwork’s How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at the United Center. It was just as advertised… SPECTACULAR!
The dragons are SO VERY COOL!! Really, really cool!! They are super big and realistic looking. They even FLY which had the kids more wide-eyed than any other live show/performance that we have been to in the past. It is very cool how the actors interact with the dragons, making them seem so real and full of emotion. At one point, my six year old leaned over and said “I think that dragon just winked at me!” And he probably did… that are THAT cool!
Although my boys and I have seen the movie and are reading the books, my Hubby didn’t know much of the story but was still able to follow along and thoroughly enjoy the show. They have this gigantic screen where they project different backgrounds to make each scene come to life. This makes the flying parts look even more realistic and cool because it truly looks like they are going straight into the dragon’s lair and flying over the cliffs and the water. It was all very impressive!
There were kids of all ages there and they all seemed to be loving the show. For me, I think this show is best for kids 5 and up. One of the best parts of the show was the super realistic, super sophisticated dragons of all sizes. However, this in itself, to me, is one of the reasons it is better for a bit older crowd. There was lots of smoke and flashing lights and a couple fight scenes with the Vikings and the dragons. I think it would have been a bit much for my 3yr old (he didn’t come tonight) but there were certainly young kids there that seemed to be eating it all up.
Overall, it is a VERY COOL show. If you and your kiddos love fantasy and fairy tale and a very entertaining show, How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular is definitely for you!
