Tweet, the Restaurant, Not What You Do On Twitter!

Today’s post is by our newest Dupage Mamas writer!  She goes by Modern Day Lucy, because that is what she is.  She is a wife, a new mom,  and a fabulous writer who loves to share the quirky, funny, annoying, loving and all other aspects of being a mom and a wife.  Lucy lives in the city and I can’t wait to read about her adventures and recommendations.   We welcome her to the DupageMamas team and community!

Ricky and I have always loved trying out new restaurants.  I know having a kiddo can affect the places people can go, but when Little Ricky was born this summer we found he didn’t really change our plans much.  The 3 of us would head into a restaurant and he would snooze away in his car seat.

“What a perfect, easy-going child we have!” we said smugly to each other.  “Our lives are going to carry on much as they did before he was born.  How wonderful!”

(Stop laughing.)

And then a couple of months passed and Little Ricky woke up.  He was no longer content to just sleep in his car seat while we had a leisurely meal out.  He wanted attention, he wanted movement, he wanted to grab everything on the table!

So our eating out habits changed.  We didn’t downgrade to McDonald’s, but we did start visiting more casual, family-friendly restaurants.

Once Little Ricky began eating solids we always made sure to carry 022along a banana, a baggie of cheerios, pureed veggies, some food thing to keep him occupied while we were out.  And this made the process a little easier.  But as he’s not the neatest little guy, we still stayed away from the hipper joints.  (In my experience, the hipsters don’t like the kiddos.  Why is that?)

But a few weeks ago we made plans to have brunch with several friends, one of whom suggested Tweet.

Located in Uptown, Tweet is a little hippy, both the cool kind and  the granola kind.  The morning we were there the patrons consisted mostly of cool, young twenty-somethings who were (probably) feeding their hangovers.  (Hey, I was young and cool once.  I know how it works!)

We came prepared with banana, pureed carrots, bib, baby spoon, etc.  But before we had time to pull any of that out of our bag, a waiter appeared with a bowl of cut-up bananas for our son.  Wow.  As we got settled into our table we realized that the bowl and spoon he brought us were actually baby dishes and that they had placed a mat at Little Ricky’s spot (both on the table and under his highchair) so he wouldn’t make a mess.

Are you in love with the place yet?  I am!

I know that for a lot of restaurants being kid-friendly means you offer crayons and a piece of paper with a word find on it.  For parents with an infant that doesn’t do us much good.  THIS–the banana, the baby sized dishes–is kid-friendly for parents of infants!

Besides the awesome service my son received, we had a wonderful waitress, everything we ordered was delicious and we left knowing we would return!  I love that Tweets has figured out how to be both hip and very welcoming to children and their families.

So the next time you want a delicious brunch and don’t want to worry that the waitstaff is going to give your kid the stink-eye, try Tweets.  But be prepared for a wait (it’s worth it!) and bring cash as they don’t accept plastic!
