A Winter/Olympics Craft Idea

Posted at 4:33 pm on February 18, 2010 by Farrah

Are you feeling spring-fever?  We sure are.  I think we have caught ever respiratory virus known to man this winter and can’t WAIT for spring and warm weather to come.  To help fight the “winter needs to end” blues, I found this cool craft I did with my preschooler today.  I found the idea on this site which is where I usually go when I am needing some crafting-inspiration.  We altered it a bit to make it easier for him to do, but it still turned out super cute and fun too!

3-D SnowJump

1. Draw out a mountain on the corner of one side of a peice of light blue construction paper.  Spread out some glue onSnowjump Craft 2 the mountain (we used regular Elmer’s, not a glue stick, and that worked well).  Tear up some white tissue paper into small pieces and cover the glue on the mountain.

2.  Glue some cotton balls to the top of the page for snow.

Snowjump Craft 33.  Draw the rest of the mountain with a white crayon.  Add some green trees.

4.  The skier is just a piece of construction paper with toothpicks for skis and poles.  (We again used regular glue for the toothpicks)

Snowjump Craft 4

Voila!  A Ski Jumper!  My little guy loved it since we have been watching the Olympics. There are others that I plan to try in the next few days:  Paper Plate Snowman, Handprint Tree, Mitten and Snowflake Hanging.  If you try the skijumper or any of these, we would love to see how yours turn out.  E-mail a picture of your child’s masterpiece to dupagemamas(at)gmail(dot)com or post it to our Facebook page.

Also, I am doing this Lenten Cross craft with the boys tomorrow. I have a post on my personal kidscrossblog about good activities to do with your kids for Lent.  And I have the templates for the Jesus Tree we are Jesus Tree- week onedoing if you are interested.  Just e-mail us and I can send them to you.

Do you know of any great kids’ craft ideas or other fun ways to beat the “I can’t believe it is still WINTER” blues?  Please share!!
