Cleaning Calendar!

I hope I’m not the only Mother who has a hard time staying on top of housework. Between my two boys, my two jobs, and my two blogs there really isn’t enough time in the day. Add to that I’m trying to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle (being a martyr will just hurt my boys and other responsibilies in the long run). If we make it to the end of the day with full tummies and clean clothes, I never cease to be amazed.
I’m the kind of person who just has to work with a rhythm and routine. Until I get myself into a groove, I’m just in a rut. I’ve tried several different ideas – housework website, cleaning gurus, even making a very very detailed cleaning schedule that I really hoped I would keep. But somehow that rhythm continues to elude me.
Until recently.
Now, I realize that last paragraph was mellow dramatic and I’m starting to sound like an infomercial – but I am sincere and in earnest. I found a website called www.motivatedmoms.com. For $8 you can download a year’s worth of weekly calendars. Each week is broken into seven days and each day has a short list of chores to accomplish that day. The creator has thought of everything -from watering your plants to organizing your computer hardrive to making an appointment at the vet – everything has its own day.
I won’t say this has worked perfectly for me – it hasn’t – but it has worked more than anything else so far. I can’t get everything done on the list every day; there are just too many other demands on my time. But I get a lot of them done. And since the list includes things like “restock the bathrooms with toilet paper” and “wash the front of your dishwasher” there are details getting done around the house that simply wouldn’t get done otherwise.
The calendar is formatted with the actual dates, so this is the best time to jump onboard – at the beginning of the year. There are several different formats you can choose. Who’s with me?
