Battling Grime and Germs Naturally

I walked down the cleaning aisle in the grocery store yesterday as I looked for some garbage bags. My eyes began to water, my airway started to close up and I started hacking away. I felt (and looked) horrible for the rest of my shopping excursion. I very rarely use chemical based cleaners anymore. At first I started experimenting with other things because my body would have a strong negative reaction to them. When I got pregnant that reaction got worse. Then I worried about exposing my kids to strong chemical cleaners. Soon, I realized it was better for the earth too. I clean mostly with vinegar, baking soda and essential oils. Just a few drops of essential oils goes a long way.
I use lavender oil and tea tree oil because they have disinfectant properties. I also use peppermint or lemon oils because they both helps cover the vinegar scent. My new favorite essential oil is a blend from Young Living. I use their therapeutic grade oils for my massage practice, but now I’m discovering more uses. Anway, my new favorite oil is called Thieves Oil. It smells amazing–rich, warm and like cinnamon. Yum! It helps kill airborne bacteria, it boosts the immune system and can be used as a disinfectant. All without chemicals!
Essential oils are multipurpose. I use them for massage for my children. If my girls are coming down with a cold I give them a foot massage with Thieves oil and diffuse it in their room. They haven’t been getting as sick as they were last year–so I think it’s helping to boost their immunity.
There’s a whole product line based on the Thieves Oil blend, soap, waterless hand cleaner, travel spray, lozenges. I would love to buy it all up. I am totally hooked on it. I like it so much that I am making the products available for order to my clients now.
I feel so good knowing I am cleaning with a natural product and still protecting my little ones from some of the pretty fierce germs out there during the cold and flu season.
