Sign up with the new Emergency Contact Database

I don’t like to even talk about it much less blog about it, but we all know that anything can happen. So I was glad to hear that this month Illinois has created an Emergency Contact Database. According to their website, in the event of a motor vehicle crash or other emergency situation where a person is unable to communicate directly, law enforcement may access this database to help them reach the person’s designated emergency contacts.

In otherwords, if something happens to me when I’m out on the road, my loved ones can be easily identified and contacted because I have already registered who I want contacted and had that associated with my driver’s liscense.  And, when I’m the person waiting at home I can be pretty certain that no news is good news.

This isn’t just for driver’s liscenses – you can register using your learner’s permit or identification card as well.  You can update the information anytime using the website, and can choose either one or two contacts.

Without doubt, I hope I never have to use this  program.  I hope I never get that call, and I hope I never need that call to be made.  But I do think its important to be prepared.

If you would like to register your own emergency contact information into the database, simply visit this website and fill out the simple form.  Curious but not ready to commit?  Here’s a list of FAQ’s.
