Summer time or School time? Dupage Links for 8/27/09

School may be starting up, but summer isn’t over…yet. Though lots of events and activities are winding down, there are several that are still in full swing until Labor Day, so this weekend is your chance to live it up one more time. This Sunday, for instance is the last day for visitors to Naper Settlement to make their own free sundae with all the toppings. This weekend is your last chance to participate in the Charlotte’s Web Theater-Hike at the Morton Arboretum. Your town probably has a few last minute flings scheduled as well, so why not visit the pool or farmer’s market one last time.
Today, Thursday August 27th, is Power IT Down Day. Haven’t heard of it? Its a national campaign to conserve energy. If you want to participate, be sure to turn off your computer, printer, monitor, etc at the end of the day. But first, register here. At the end of the day they’ll calculate how many people participated, and how many kilowatt hours were saved. And as if that weren’t enough, there’s even a donation that will be made to a great cause.
Have you ever wondered what’s going on underground over at Argonne National Laboratory? On Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m they are opening their doors to visitors of all ages to participate in interactive and hands-on demonstrations of some of the science and technology that will help shape our future. Even if this sounds a bit more like “school” than like “summer” I imagine it will be fascinating.
What are you up to this weekend? Let us know and we’ll include it – or better yet, send us pictures or guest posts!
