Survive the Recession and Visit Main Street: Dupage Links for August 13

Posted at 7:02 am on August 13, 2009 by Catherine

Did you miss the Tour de France this year?  Make up for it by visiting the National Championships of Cycling, the bicycle-race-778043“Granddaddy of Midwest Cycling Events,” which will be rolling through Downers Grove on August 15th-16th.

Speaking of Downers Grove, the whole City is heading out tonight on a progressive dinner!  Starting with a First Course at the DoubleTree, Second Course at Carlucci’s, Dinner and Dessert at Parkers, and some after dinner bowling at Tivoli’s. What a creative idea – you know what they say, “The Village that Eats together stays together.”  Or something?

Now that its August, Roselle’s Main Street Market is back in full swing. The heart of a farmer’s market with fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and baked breads, and a broad array of unique gourmet and gift items that entice shoppers to come back week after week, plus live entertainment and family events each Saturday morning!

Main Street in Roselle is also home to Friday night Cruise Nights. Pack family and friends in the car, and come down to Main Street (between Roselle Road and Prospect Street) every Friday night through September 25 for free, fun entertainment, featuring 50′s music with D.J. Tony.Thomas

And of course, who doesn’t want to see Thomas the Train, who is chugging into the Illinois Railway Museum this weekend and next in Union, IL? Tickets are on sale but going fast!

There is also the Chicago Air and Water Show this weekend.  Click here for more information on where to park and other events specifics.

If the recession has impacted your family, you might benefit from a free “Surviving the Recession” information session, offering information on a variety of programs to help DuPage Residents save their homes from foreclosure and stay afloat in the current economy. The session is on August 15th from 8:30am to 1:30pm at the DuPage County Administration Building, 421 N County Farm Road, Wheaton.

As always, if you attend any of these events we’d love to have you post about it, or send us pictures to put up to share with the rest of us.  If you know of an upcoming  event that other DuPage Mamas might enjoy, send us a tip or a guest post!
